PROJECT 2024

Sow Hope Project’’ sustainable Agriculture for Refugee empowerment and food Security” is a nine months project (April-December 2024) with funding from UNHCR under Refugee Led Innovation Fund (RLIF).  The project directly supported 100 (70F, 30M) households and 753 (384F, 369M) indirect beneficiaries with the overall goal of building capacity of smallholder farmers through sustainable climate Smart Agriculture so that they can be resilient and self-reliant. The project was implemented in Maaji and Pagirinya refugee settlement supporting refugees and host communities.

Impact to lives

  • Increased productivity of assorted vegetable crops on very small plot of land
  • Increased food security and nutrition diversification in over 80% of the supported households
  • Since June, percentage of refugees and host communities reporting period of food insecurity decreased significantly.
  • Increased income through sale of surplus from variety of assorted vegetables.
  • Increased access to diversified home gardens
  • Reduced emission of GHGs (Green House Gases) through the use of Climate Smart Agriculture Practices.
  • Increased resilience amidst climate change through the use of drought tolerant, high yielding, Pests and diseases tolerant/resistant variety.

How was it possible

The Sowhope project was possible because of the support from UNHCR under the Refugee-Led innovation Fund where we became the few organizations globally to be selected for the project.
The project began in May 2024 and will end in March 2025
